can someone PLEASE explain drop shots to me!!!

Postby el duuderino » Mon, 11 Jul 2011 23:46

please, i'm beggin for help here on the mechanics of the drop shot. i seem to play people who are incapable of hitting anything less than a perfect drop shot at any point from any angle against any incoming shot. and yet, when i hit a good or perfect drop shot, i miss them half of the time. i'm completely baffelled by these things, and i keep loosing because i can't seem to set them up at all and either miss them completely or have them sitting up in the middle of the court for an easy put away. yet the top guys seem to never hit anything but a perfect angle zero pace and sometimes sounding like a power shot also.

please, beggin for some answers here if any, thanks in advance fellas!

i can tell you one thing when your hitting your drop shots never move backwards, always move forward into the ball and when you press the buttons for the drop shot pull the L stick down at the right moment, just go and practice it against the ball machine, its quite easy once you get the hang of it

Dont try to hit dropshots too angled.......that can lead to the ball being out even on perfect timing. Practicing against the ball machine is a good idea, set it to mixed so you can get used to changes in pace.Remember, never try to move back, like above poster, and do not hit droipshotsunlessthe ball is short/slow.

thx guys. this actually has helped tremendously. now i know why just about every high ranking person i play uses either drop shot artist plus volley artist or has some combination of the two. now i can counter them a bit more effectively i think.

if you use drop shots strategically it works....i usually use them to pull my opponent to net then pass them....rarely do i think i can hit one for a winner unless my opponent is 8 feet beyond the baseline...you can even hit a crappy one and still pass someone

another great drop shot tactic is if you hit a good serve and get a weak reply, instead of trying to hit a booming winner (which is what most people expect) take a risk and hit a drop shot. Sometimes they freeze up out of surprise. This also keeps them guessing as to what you're going to do. If you're not comfortable with hitting drop shots yet, try this strategy when you're up 40-0 or 40-15 :)
