The Fake-Approach-Shot...

Postby Q-Spin » Tue, 28 Jun 2011 10:55

Why do people holding down R1(PS3)/RB(?XBOX) when they dont want to approach the net??? What do you think about this fake-approach-shot? If this was discussed before, im sorry, but I really want to know:

1.) Are these shots more effective? Have they more power? More spin? More precision?

2.) Is there less recovery time after stretching for a shot?

3.) Can you run faster towards the ball?

4.) Is using R1/RB skill, cheese or nonsense?

For me Tennis is also a visual experience and TS4 does such a great job in the normal player animations. So I just go mad if someone ruined this experience with this shot all the time. I really cant focus while my opponent is dancing like a ballet queen.

No idea if it gives any advantage but I regularly do this by accident when I'm trying to run left and right. I think it puts me at a disadvantage because it pulls me towards the net slightly meaning I have to spend more time repositioning. Would be better if there were 2 buttons - one for sprint and one for approach modifier.

I dont know of it helps you either but it does wind me up when people do it on literally every shot and then back peddle.

I think it's a cheap shot but with no consequenses. It's more a disadvantage for yourself because you are not in a really good position and your opponent can return the ball with a top spin shot. I use the shot only if I go to the net that's realistic I think.

I do that quite a lot to not get pushed back too far behind the baseline so I can still move to the net in the rally. I have never thought of it that people may find it cheesy.

yea me too it helps you stay close to the basline and more importantly in the point. My opponents dnt think its chessy cos like you rocketsfall I do come to net. If the oponent isn't moving forward it can be annoying.

3.) Can you run faster towards the ball? That's the feeling you get when you press RB button. Actually, in real tennis, if you want to attack the ball you go forward...step into the court...you know? and that move in TS4 could be similar to that.

No, and no, annoying for the opponent? maybe

Its a tick for me personally. I keep pressing it, no idea why. The button is used in so many games and somehow it has convinced me that it makes me quicker...

Im trying to not use it anymore though. Maybe i should just remove the button all together.

This.
It is definitely more of a disadvantage to the player who is pressing rb coz unless you are moving towards the net, you can easily get caught in no mans' land and thus putting yourself in a bad position.

OK, thanks for the answers. So if nobody can see an advantage, maybe these shots just seems to be more effective against me, because the microseconds I get annoyed are the microseconds that are missing for my reaction time

I think I must learn to live with it and to be more open to the ballet queens among us

Because it does send you to the ball faster moving left to right while charging with a shot button. But at the same time that combo is for approaching the net.

I really hate it though because sometimes you are out of position for the next shot. And it's just something that carried from TS3. Now when I do it, sometimes I just try to force myself to the net, not very successful though. lol
Seems I can't cross that threshold just yet :(
