Please Help With Slice

Postby Imatk » Wed, 23 Mar 2011 20:26

Ok for some reason I cannot hit a slice shot.

Everytime I hit the shot it just hangs in the air like a dud... or falls really short.

When I tried to pass the tutorial at the academy of tennis no matter how many times I hit the target with the slice shot it never registered.

I assume because I wasn't hitting it "properly?"

So if anyone can tell me how the heck to hit this shot I'd be grateful.

I've tried holding down, and precision and still the same problem.

Thanks

Don't feel too bad. Venus Williams sucks at hitting slice too. She only does it in defense. Last time I checked her resume she was doing just fine.

To be honest there is not more i can tell you then to improve your timing and positioning. If you manage to hit with a perfect timing but the slice is still not good your positioning must have been bad.

The shots I'm hitting, according to the helper thingie, are "perfect" or "good" but the slice still just hangs up in the air.

And I can't seem to get past the Academy tutorial when it comes to the slice shots, even though I both hit the target and my slice is "perfect" or "good."

So is it a bug on the Academy thing?

Do slice shots normally sit up and not "knife" like they do in real tennis or is there something else I should be doing?

Pull down on the left stick as your holding the slice button. Try this and lemme know how it goes.

Just realised my advice would cause you to hit it short. Ignore me cause slicing (a bit like coffee) is not my cup of tea :)

I usually push it up to aim to deeper, but I don't know if that will help you.
Ryan Harrison - Defensive Baseliner - 0/8/12
Kei Nishikori - Offensive Baseliner - 0/12/8
Robin Soderling - Strong Offensive Baseline - 0/16/4

Calling it now; Kei Nishikori = Top Ten in less than 3 years.

Its all sounding a bit odd. First things first, in the academy lesson do you need to hit a slice control shot? A control shot is executed by just tapping on the right moment. Are you doing that?

Cause what you describe sounds like a normal shot (slice). Thats when you press for a longer time on the shot button but havent powered up completely for a power shot. A half charged normal shot (slice) floats around a bit and is rather useless.

If thats not the case then i dont know. Add me on xbox live and i can help you judge your slice. If its like it should be or if you are doing something wrong.

Ok I figured it out... there's something wrong with one of my controllers!

I don't know why, but when I hit the slice button on one of my controllers it doesn't slice... it sort of slices, but it's really just a strange slice-like shot that hangs in the air.

Maybe on my old controller when I hit X it's actually hitting parts of another button?

I don't know... but I switched to a newer controller and it works perfectly.

MAN that was frustrating!

I thought it was a game flaw or something that I was just not doing but it was just my old and busted controller!

Thanks for the help everyone!
