Davis Cup info/rules

Postby SlicerITST » Wed, 24 Feb 2010 16:47

Welcome to the ITST Davis Cup! The best players of each country will battle it out to see which nation is best!

Each Davis Cup team consists of max. 5 players with 1 team captain. The team selection can be changed for each encounter, the captain is fixed so he'll manage his team throughout the Cup. If you want to be a captain you must discuss this with your fellow countrymates. ITST doesn't make the decision who's captain of a country!

Format
The Davis Cup will be a knockout tournament. A maximum of 16 countries can enter. When your country loses an encounter they're out of the Cup. When the draw's made the home country can decide on what court the encounter will be played. An encounter will consist of 5 singles matches played by the best of 5 principle. When a country has won 3 matches the remaining rubbers will be best of 3 sets. Your nation will need a minimum of 3 players to compete in this year's Davis Cup! The format of the encounter will then be:

Player 2 vs Player 1
Player 1 vs Player 2
Player 3 vs Player 3
Player 1 vs Player 1
Player 2 vs Player 2

The captain can also let the two reserve players play the last two matches. Note that all matches should be played in this order. So the first match will be Player 2 of the home team versus Player 1 of the away team.

Continental teams and other exceptions

Continental teams can be signed up for this Davis Cup just as last year. Any players in this team must not be available for any other team though. So any player from USA or France for example can never play for their respective continental teams.

If demand is high and people dont mind we could think of adding multiple teams for the big nations to also give the players that are not that good yet a chance to play. We can use this thread to discuss this option. This rule has been implemented in the past. There we had an addition to this rule saying that players are not interchangable between the 2 country teams for the entire Davis Cup. As that was a succes i would like to do that this year as well.

Slicer. Agassi is asking me about the deadline for the first round:

Match 1 and 2 deadline: 8 March
Match 3 deadline: 10 March
Match 4 and 5 deadline: 12 March

Well, not all the teams sent their line-up. So, we do not know who players 1-3 are. Some have not even sent their home court (for host nation).

So, I told him to wait for the update(s) from you. There is nothing else we can do at this point.

Okay Slicer. It hurts to see some people not crediting the reason why this Davis Cup event started from the very beginning, but who cares. Rob knows. :swg

I am aways put down on this forum, or I should say that my efforts are taken for granted by many here.

Thanks for the update Slicer.
