Tennis Masters Cup Discussion Thread

Postby Mack2300 » Mon, 24 Nov 2008 16:22

Like the thread Djarvik made for the Sony Ericsson Championships, I thought it would be interesting to make a similar thread for the Tennis Masters Cup :D

The groups are as follows;

Red Group
1.swifty512
2.Xohrum85
3.joesixtoe
4.setheleh

Blue Group
1.retos11
2.picachu211
3.AMAZING ZIZOU
4.Mack2300

So who do you think will win? Do you sense any upsets?

Even though Picachu is hot and Swifty got the slightly harder group, I have to go with Swifty. I don't know how well Xohrum will do, but I figure it will be a toss up between Swifty, Retos, and Picachu.

Have fun guys!

Yes. Have fun all.

Sherlock. Yours is an educated guess. Mine is just a hunch. I know nothing of these players. Yet, I like to select one and see if I am wrong!!

I will go with setheleh, or Joe. If setheleh plays well, he is the one to beat. His serve will get him to tie breaks... If he can be consistent on returns, he has got a VERY good chance here.

Joe as well, if he stays consistent, he is a nightmare top play against!

I just want to say, from my playing experience with some (I didn't play retos11, and played against Xohrum85 once in my first match at ITST) ANYONE has a shot here.

Mack2300 - I always have fun games with mack, it is probably the most satisfying games I play, he covers the court extremely well, very smart player, he WILL make you move and move and move.

joesixtoe - Mr. Agassi, and he plays to this name too! Heavy shots down the lines, and base line movement is top notch! I love playing you Joe, I get this authentic Agassi feeling LOL

swifty512 - is the ultimate all around. There is probably not a thing he can't do. Too many weapons for me.

Xohrum85 - like I said, don't remember his game at all. All i know this was my first match on ITST, and it went something like 6-0 6-0 LOL

setheleh - one of the best servers on the tour, Rob is still #1 for me. He serves strong with good mix and placement. His ground game is solid enough to win the top guys there, if his return is clicking, he is a Monster!

retos11 - never played him. Retos11 - if you are up for a friendly game, Let me know!

picachu211 - Talent wise, he is THE Best on the tour. And it looks like he is in top form now. I am out of the point from the first or second shot when I play him. Serve is the only "window" in his game, you can look thru, but probably won't make it to the other side. Like swifty, he has got every shot in a book, less power then swifty, but precision and timing more then make up for it!

AMAZING ZIZOU - I played him a couple of times and was able to hang with him. Still don't now his game enough to make an assessment. Solid of the ground, good mover.

My vote goes to Retos to claim the title. He was absolutely ruthless in our match. Obviously he likes to devour defensive,counter-punching types :(

Don't even try to be smart against him, I guess this is too late now...
If I were to choose, he is the last opponent I want to play and he gets my vote.
And does setheleh change his style when he plays me? I have more problems with his return game than serving.

Great footwork and anticipation, solid groundstrokes, if you don't get on top of him early, he eats you for breakfast.
Not to mention the nasty topspin return...

Well if you look at our past matches the scoreline has been pretty much the same each time lol. I just can't provide a competitive match. Retos was the first to beat me here back in July with a 6-1 6-1 trashing and I think that has set the tone for the rest of our matches. Only 50 on serve but he is really tough to break and a lot of power off the ground. He is also really fast so it is tough to get a winner past him. I'm really jealous of how good he is

Possibly. Or maybe it is just that your serve is not great, and your return is fantastic! LOL It is true! I think I can do really well having your return skills.

BTW - how does Retos play? can you describe? just curious.
