Postby riley108 » Mon, 17 Jan 2011 10:03

hi all the draw is out please make a prediction and post match results here thanx

i'll get it started, i predict lonamer11 to win just because of his ability to counter attack, his shot selections and his ability to turn defence in to attack

what's funny is that there are only 3 more players who even play the MSS tour. :D

It has been a long long time since I had a decent match result to report so here goes.

My form on PS3 really nosedived last year and I has been unable to find a sim player suitable for me. This time I used Bashmakov against Apathetically as Cannon.

First set my serve was useless and when I was 3-1 down I seriously considered quittin this match and sim, but I stuck with it and gradually found some footing midway through the 2nd, eventually snatching a late break.

I was targeting the weaker forehand because his backhand was very strong and his defence exceptional. I lost the third in a breaker but my competitive edge had returned and I broke twice in a quickfire fourth to force a decider.

Serve dominated but trailing 4-5 15-40 I saved 2pm plus another 3 in an exceptionally long game. I think this rattled him and I raced to 6-1'in the breaker to edge out the match 4-6 7-5 6-7 6-2 7-6 in 1hr 45.

He was 116 winners to my 115 but bp I was 3/7 and he was 1/16. I will get hammered next round but this win will make up for it!

alex def riley 5-7 7-6 6-2 5-7 6-3

1st set:

Riley started off strong and I didnt feel comfortable out there, couldnt play my counterpunching game cause riley was hitting some ridiculously good angles, and when i did get to them the shots flew out. However, mid game I started getting into it and it was more or less even, but riley raised his lvl to break me at 6-5 with some good returns

2nd set:

Not much to say, we held serve till 7-6 and (i think) exchanged breaks. In the tiebreak I manage to go up two breaks, riley got one back, then I got another and he double faulted on set point.

3rd set:

The score probably doesnt reflect the set, I just managed to break when I got my chances and riley didn't.

4th set:

I started getting too comfortable, riley's level was sinking and I felt i could just breeze through this one but he got back into the game around 3-3 and didn't look back. He got me at 6-5 again with some good returns.

5th set:

Felt pretty down here and just generally lost momentum. Forced myself to stay in it and threw some on the run risks that miraculously went in, and although I was the one being pressured I somehow broke mid-set and served out at 5-3 40-30 to win the match.

Really tough match, riley is becoming one of those few opponents against who you don't know what to expect and its difficult to get a grip and a rythm in the game. We've always had close matches, usually in three sets, This being our first bo5 i'm not suprised it went to 5. As everyone already knows, hes someone to seriously watch out for this year (or for most: until march when top spin 4 comes out and then god knows 8) ) Thx for a great match buddy

Sounds like a fantastic match! Looks like you put up a good fight riley, well done. From your description, that is alex's key strength, you think the point's over and he gets an incredible shot back... Never an easy point.

Disagree, alex's main strength is his mental strength, dont get me wrong, his counter punching is amazing, second to none, but his mental strength is second to nothing.
Thats my experience anyway
