Having a nightmare!

Postby Baghdad Baghdatis » Tue, 11 Jan 2011 20:46

Alreet all,

I just wanted to know peoples experience with xbox controllers - specifically with regards to topspin.

I have been playing the game now for best part of 2 years and apart from one controller that completely broke I have been through at least 5 controllers.

Now here comes the f'ing tormenting part - I find that my xbox controller is actually one of the most important parts of my game and changing controllers is as bad as a pro being forced to play with a Wilson rather than a Prince (i know its only a video game). Let me explain....

...When I was at my peak perhaps last summer I had a controller (the decent official one and always have) that after bedding in for a month or so became my greatest weapon as the LT and analog especially became the perfect resistance and I could almost put the ball wherever I wanted to and move around the court like a butterfly. Eventually, probably after constant use of RT, LT & RB the resistance changed and the buttons became really unresponsive - then a couple of them pretty much stopped working unless I SLAMMED my finger on it :angry

Since that controller the few I have had since just don't seem to work like my "super pad", I can't time the ball consistently or perform certain shots which are fundamental to my game. Now I have not played ITST for some 4/5 months but I still play the odd exho and I just struggle to find complete enjoyment as I don't feel like its me out there!

Maybe I was just a one controller wonder but please tell me, has anyone ever else found this problem or am I looking into it a bit too much :?

I think you are "a one controller wonder"

Seriously, I think controllers are just as strings on the racket. When they are brand new, they are good, but need to be "broken in" to be perfect. At some point every controller hits the "golden" spot... and starts declining, to the point of being un-playable.

I find my self playing the best after about 1-2 month into a lifetime of a controller.

I go thru about 3-4 of them a year.

This is interesting and may explain my dip in form too. I had to replace one controller coz a bit of the rubber had broken off the analog stick and it felt odd trying to play with it

No I have had this problem before. My brother got an xbox and I used one of his controllers and it was like I was playing the game like it was new. My game was completely off track.

Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

seems like I was lucky with my controller as I still use the same one I was already using when I started TS3 2 1/2 years ago...

My controller I use now is starting to go. It will randomly give me a shot that goes the complete opposite way I'm aiming. Sometimes it's rather amusing, though. ;-)

Same thing happens to me...

With certain games, particularly the more difficult simulation titles like TS3 and Gran Turismo, the controller makes a huge difference.

I've gone through a couple since last year and it definitely affects my game.

At least you Xbox players have a good standard controller to begin with, the Sony controller is just too small for people with big hands. Add to that: the one manufacturer that makes well designed third party controllers IMO, for the PS3 has stopped making them! So I'm going to be SOL very soon.
