US open - SIM semi's!!

Postby Baghdad Baghdatis » Thu, 16 Sep 2010 17:29

Well I am all the way in Turkey and just hooked up to wifi from my iPhone. I am very pleased to see my three favourite players in the latter stages - Al, iluv & zizou. Also very nice to see Niten make up the bottom half.

I don't want to call the winner because a) it's too hard to say and b) I like you all.

If I had to pick a final I would say zizou to progress in 4 sets vs niten for a start. Illuv v Al is very tough and could easily go to 5 sets. A couple of months ago I would say Illuv to progress in 4 but with Al's recent win over epox in pilot pen it could go either way! Good luck guys (sent from iPhone)

I strongly disagree. Baghdad is a city.

Not even close for me. Straight set loss to IluvbilVal. :? Windy conditions.

My guy felt like a turtle against him, seemed like he had all the time in the world and had his guy snap into position on every shot, even a well placed one...where my guy just seemed to be always a step-two-three behind and react 1-2-3 seconds later.

He return all of my serve and was in every service game of mine, I was literally laughing at one point, he would always guess right, every serve he took a small step in the right direction. Too much.

In the meantime I couldn't get my racket on his serve, no matter what. And the few times I did get to touch the ball, I would send it flying high up in mid court for an easy put away.

It was not even close, I never once felt that there is a remote chance of me winning.

Good luck for the finals guys.

See ya all in TS4.

I had the same feeling against you Zizou. Even winning the 2nd set, i never thought there s a chance for me to win, i almost smashed my gamepad  .
Your volley s are simply deadly...no chance for a baseline player as me to find a rhytm.
Your style is very unique.

But hey, did you play against pfnerch in recent times? He s predictable because he just play serve and volley, but his volley s are very equal to yours.
I would pay to see a match between you and him on grass, like Wimbledon like the 90´s. :)

LOL. Thank you man. Very nice from you.

When I play a volley player, i usually don't rush the net as much. I always try to find the good solution against the type of game my opponent is offering.
So You played only volley players in this US Open ! Epox uses Jansen right? Pfnerch plays S&V you just said ; and i try to rush the net asap. Pretty rare.

We had a very nice match and I didn't think I was going to win for sure. Everything relies on the returns anyway.

I guess we all have our "weak spots". Anteros used to be mine, but after he stopped, I felt there was no one out there.....meaning I went into each match with a clear chance to win. Even the most fearful Norberto, at this point we are dead even head to head on both tours and I actually feel that 60/40 about my chances against him (although we didn't play for ages, so don't know)

So now IluvBilVal takes the spot.....I rather Play Norberto at this point.

...I know for a fact, next time we play...I won't consider winning as an option.

...but that is when I am the most dangerous. haha

Hats off to you ILuv, I wish I had a cheesy part of your game to complain about, but I don't.

IluvBillVal is probably the best SIM player out there at the moment, maybe better than Baghdad...

Losing to him in the QF, I think I really played VERY well, maybe not as good as I did against Baghdad in our Wimbledon Final, but still, I was very satisfied with my game - and I did not even win a single set

Good luck to both of you in the Final!

Thanks guys. It really means a lot coming from some of the best players to ever enter into SIM competition. I've had some real SIM classics with djarvik, Zizou, and Baghdad for sure, but have only recently met Norberto (a genuine rival in every other format). I'm sure the final will be a lot of fun. Zizou has a great all-court game and once in a while I work up the nerve to make something special happen!

Good luck, my friend. I'll be bringing everything to the court.

Well iluv vs zizou final, very pleased for you both. Iluv, as Al said your game is flawless and absolutely fair. I always knew you were going to be legend and your RG WS slam and now Sim final confirms that for me.

Zizou, everyone knows you have flair in itst and your blend of s+v and baseline ability makes you one of the true greats. Your record IMO does not reflect the level of your true ability so my advice would be to give all you have against iluv even if it means staying on the baseline because it is there the match Is going to be won by either of you.

I will be returning at the weekend so I would like to have the opportunity (& honour) of playing the winner in a fun "welcome back" exhibition if your diaries permit.

No voodoo magic this time, just go hit dome balls!

Final:

ILuvBillVal - AMAZING ZIZOU

7-5 7-6 6-7 6-7 6-3

What the hell of result! How long went it? I gues about 1 hour at least because both are very skilled baseliners.
