R1 question.......

Postby brgerflipr » Tue, 08 Jun 2010 13:36

Let me first say that I am one of these people, so I am not complaining. I just wanted to get everyone's opinion. I use this shot regularly, but someone mssg'd me the other day and said it was cheap. I started thinking maybe it is, but I'm not sure...............

Holding R1 for more power only and then pulling the controller back to have your player go back to the middle. So basically you're hitting the ball as if approaching the net, but then your player reverses back to baseline.

Thoughts?

I don't see the cheapness. I mean you have to move back and if plyer in position he can make things difficult for you if he hits a deep shot. I'm not sure whether it is to powerfull as well. Although I never do it with risk feels weird holding R1 and R2 or L2.

I also use it regularly. R1 helps me get into position when falling too far behind the baseline, and it helps moving into balls that come slightly short. I have never experienced any added power on these shots, but maybe your opponents thinks so because he has less time to respond as you take the ball earlier.

I wouldn't say it's cheap as to get extra power on this shot, you have to be well positioned to take the big swing. (Whereas a cheap tactic you can use mostly anywhere and be cheesily effective, like short risk slice).

Saying that, using R1 from way behind the baseline looks silly (I do it all the time btw, to get myself back into position near the baseline). The shot makes perfect sense if you are stepping into the court, chip & charge, net rush etc and in my view in real life you can get extra power from this type of shot...

Unfortunately just another small flaw in TS3.

You definately hit them harder with R1, I've played with you too many times to know this :P You hit a lot of winners from them when you step into court to kill off short balls (watch your Striker vid on ITST TV and see)

Is that really because of the added power, of because the time I take away from you?
I guess my positioning is just better anyway on those shots. I doubt it's solely the R1 adding the power.

I don't find it cheap but it does annoy me. Don't know why but especially when it is used to seemingly create a short angle I'm just like "MOVE FORWARD FFS!", but I'm just tetchy like that :D

I could care less what anyone else does. I personally can't stand using Rb (R1). It's probably just because I suck ass at it, but in my opinion it makes my guy start running all around and convulsing like he is either retarded and/or seizing violently.

I see nothing wrong with it...it definitely is 'cheap' (I mean that with as little negative connotation as possible), but whatever it's in the game, bitches need to stop whining.
