Djarvik Open: Disgusting tennis, simply disgusting!! (sorry)

Let me assure you that you would not of wanted to see this match, it was horrible.

Now I don't often complain, nor have I EVER retired on an opponent in my ITST playing career. Am I mistaken but is SIM a version of tennis that tries to bring out the best in topspin and give players the opportunity to try and get as close to realistic tennis as possible? - EPOX projects the very opposite of this society, he is 100% world tour, sorry, but its true.

Now the crazy thing is that this Djarivk Open is not even for ranking points, just a great fun tourny created for people to enjoy and at least experiment with a new player & of course still be competitive.

EPOX said in a earlier post something to the effect of "EPOX vs Pichacu WIN" - and that hits the nail on the head, WIN! A hungry little winning machine.

Every shot was risk, every serve was out wide slice and perhaps at 40-0 pop one down the middle just to make it look like he is mixing it up, disgusting. about 20 points drop shot then stand at the net to finish with a volley - repetitive horrible desperate tennis!!!!!! Burns has 54 power, it not like you need to risk against someone like that 100%, especially with 74 power for striker.

Winners 80 unforced errors 30 = EPOX
Winers 9 unforced errors 2 = Baghdad

I won the first set 7-6, and I swear down that after being 1-0 up in the second I was genuinely going to retire, not only would that of been my first ever retirement but also probably a first of someone to retire from being up.

Second, EPOX won it 7-6 and then I was fuming because his tactics got even worse in the 2nd set tie break, and shamefully I was just putting the ball back into play in the third set because I just wanted to get off the court, I know its as bad as quitting, but I thought at the time he deserved at least me playing it out.

I started the match serve and volleying, and my opponent who is a very efficient vollier didn't bother at all, so much of Burns vs Striker.

Final score 6-7 7-6 6-0.

Now some of the hosts or managers may look at this and think this is a slating post and want to "lock it", but I assure you I am simply using this as an example of how horribly this game is abused.

I have occassionally been criticised for an element of my game, as I am sure every one has at some point, but to be honest, I am just gonna play my game from now on, whether people like it or not, because you know what, everyone else does and they don't event bat an eye lid

Oh dear. I thought it would be a old fashioned SV match, with net rushes and chip and charge lol. sad to hear that.

Thanks for your response EPOX, I translated your reply

"I have the impression that to win against EXCELENT players this is forbidden. I have does a lot of faults, as d hab' c is my game. Top Spin is an excelent game, but it has its defects (return, service movement. ..). Each has his game style. The problem, it is that there are styles of annoying games (me for example), it is necessary accepts this style kind, c is to respect his opponent. Thank you. " (EPOX)

I appreciate your comments, and to be honest you are a very talented player, I have always said that, I created a post I while back saying "EPOX is coming" or something to that effect. But your game has become that cheap and has got worse as you have discovered the "defects" and are incorporating it into your game. Yes there are defects in the game, you are right but its one thing to admit they are there and another to abuse them for the sake of the win on every point (pretty much) that you play. I know some players like to risk, but constant risking in SIM toppled with out wide slice serving when you are down and pretty much all of the time toppled with constant drop shots is just bizzare.

I try to put myself in the other persons shoes, and think "well they must like playing that way" but I can't for the love of me buy into it. People always say that its the difference between people who like tennis & people who like a video game, but I still can't accept it, because it is quite simply cheap tactics to get the win and weird and really frustrating.

If a player plays out wide slice serves all the time and then pops one down the centre if 40-0 up or if they are a break up then its obvious to me, toppled with the other tactics that your pleasure is purely to win, sod the game, sod the fun, sod the rallies, sod tennis!!!

I cannot except this style, nor will I ever except this style!!

No you don't have to give me the game in the future, I do not want that, I never wanted that + thats not fair on you to think that you should. And it has nothing to do about me being world number 1, 2 or 200. I have no more rights of being in the top 10 then someone who is ranked over 100. I am simply commenting, as a member of ITST, of play which stinks.

It my lesson for me to learn, if I knew the the match was going to be like that I would not have played. I know I will come up against players like you EPOX, and who am I to say that yo do not belong in SIM, thats a bit naive of me, but I just wish that players would come out and say "I accept I play that was because I am desperate to win and use them tactics to get the win" and not try and gloss it over about "different styles of play". More importantly to stop playing like that, but thats my personal wish which I know is a dream and not a reality.

I agree with you 100% but what do you want Bagdad. Every one sees noon at his window we say in French.
Ask Norberto, he always claimed what mattered was the final victory. And it's very respectable.
As for Epox, I haven't played him in a while but I remember last time we played, he won and it was a nice sim match. I also know he can risk 100% of the time.
I also don't like this style, it's not sim but ....that's the way it is. Poeple play the way they want.

PS ; i like the fact that Murda doesn't play SIM. He knows his style is not SIM so he doesn't. I wish poeple could change their style when they play sim or just don't play.

Il ne devrais même pas avoir ce topic, chacun son style point final. Il y a des styles de jeux que j'aime pas, et je ne les embêtes pas. Je suis dégoûté par toute ces reactions. C'est pas classe de votre part.

Is it ok to ask you to write in English please? I don't mind using google translator, but just in case I don't get the correct translation...

It should not even have this topic, each style period. There are styles of games that I do not like, and I do not just a bother. I am disgusted by all these reactions. It is not part of your class

Baghdad, I don't think this is necessarily something that needs to be brought to a public forum. Unless of course you are trying to let the masses know how awful it really was, then I would just think maybe letting the other player know would suffice. I'm sure it might hit home coming from a highly respectable player such as yourself!

That being said, I agree with you that there ought to be a vast difference in one's sim play and one's 40/90 play. It's not even just that people are "over risking" it's that it's like 99% flat risk just trying to blow the other guy off the court, thus defeating the purpose of sim in the first place. As far as serving out wide goes I don't think it's a huge issue (I have a hell of an outside serve :-) ) theoretically because of all the stats are lower in sim.

I think that constant risk returning in sim is lame, and it should only be used in instances where a guy is serving so extreme that your normal returns just suck. Most of these things, however are FINE for 40/90 go to town with it! :-) "Tactics" like "Oh crap I'm losing SHORT SLICE! DROPSHOT!" are not tolerable in any format to me. That's the point where you need to man up and accept that your opponent played the better match. Don't attempt to steal it.

Don't take any comments I've made as being against EPOX, or anyone in particular. It's just all about keep the good name of the sim tour shining bright. 8)

If anyone wants to play some fantastic sim, look these guys up:
Baghdad
Anteros
Djarvik
Joesixtoe
Amazing Zizou

(There are many others but these guys really stand out to me as being extremely fun and fair to play)
Norberto H or bust.

Zizou, Iluv, you are both right.

I guess I already knew that certain players go for the win, I suppose, depending on the match or my mood I can tolerate it more times than others.

I don't know I was just shocked at the game, and couldn't hide or keep secret my feelings on it. Iluv yes I perhaps should of kept this private and EPOX did not deserve to be publicly bad mouthed in a round about way.

I mean this when I say EPOX has always been a good chap, on the forums and in PM's, so despite the fact that I still cannot get my head round his game / games like this, I owe him an apology  Sorry EPOX

However I second Zizou on the fact that I wish people wouldn't join or play SIM wish risk and cheese in mind, leave that for 90-40, although if I am honest, I wish it didn't exist at all.

Competitive video gaming should be about winning...sorry Baghdad but I don't agree with most of what you said; this kind of post is very rough on our image because it makes us look like a bunch of scrubs who can never wrap their head around the concept of 'losing' and get offended when people try to 'steal' a match that's 'rightfully yours'. Come omI know losing sucks but there is no need for this. What is this like the 20th match you've lost in your life here? Get over it man.

TS3 i just allowing this kind of play.

There are tons of players (incl. myself) who do things I don't "like" .
But what can you do?

Playing without risk, makes the game broken cause there are no UE. Playing with too much also. Cause the risk shots are just overpowered.

I don't play TS3 much cause I get too annoyed with it. So if I were to come and play again I am just gonna play and accept all the flaws. And that you will meet people who just wanna "win" .
And that there are tons of shots hit that are not realistic.

Plus against certain returners it's just not very smart to serve outwide slice.
So I guess you need to improve your returns a bit more?
I know mine suck lol.

I totally agree with you Baghdad, there's just simply a difference between littering the stat sheets and playing good tennis. I don't know if it's a certain level of appreciation you need for tennis or just being good enough to know the difference between a good point and a bad one.

Let me give you a good example... I have to say either Rafael Nadal v Federer or Rafael Nadal v Verdasco is probably the best tennis I'm lucky enough to be able to watch. Not because they all are great players but because the points that they play have a certain... beauty to them. They follow patterns, still hitting fantastic shots, and then they play calculated risks. Nothing, mostly, is "go big or go home" with any of them. The way tennis should be played; because in the end the winner is truly the better player at the time.

Now I'm not saying their arguments are wrong Baghy, look at a guy like Juan Martin Del Potro, the guy is a beast, he hits his shots with such force and angle that if he does anything wrong the point is over, but the point is over either if he does it right too. Because he essentially takes the ability for the other player to even play his game away. Personally I find him atrocious to watch but I respect him, and look he won a Grand Slam title. So although his game is a favorable roll of the dice he can win... I can understand how watching someone hit winners or make unforced errors can be boring, but it's just some people's style as even EPOX said.

In the end I think there is literally nothing you can do about those guys Baghdad, just hope they figure out what tennis really is. Keep your head up guy =]
