Could it be?

Postby djarvik » Thu, 08 Apr 2010 21:03

....I had a moment yesterday night  check this out:

I don't know if you guys noticed or not....but the game's pace, player movement and speed, ball speed and "weight", players recovery time and starting running speed, etc...all vary from match to match, even on the same court/surface. Sometimes the players crawl, sometimes they fly thru the court. Sometimes it appears to be impossible to hit a hard shot no matter how well you time it, yet other times all shots seem to be cannon balls. Sometimes it is possible to create incredible angles, yet other times it seems impossible to create any decent angle.

I used to attribute all of these to Lag. But maybe I was partially wrong?

What if, all these are "court attributes/properties"....but due to some kind of in game glitch (another one), they are being assigned randomly to wrong courts? ...for example attributes of a clay court being assigned to hard.....attributes of grass court being wrongfully assigned to clay....and so on.

Because of this happening randomly, we were unable to see the pattern and explain these occurrence before.

What do you think guys?

I loaded the game yesterday and was informed there was an update (not the USB system update as I loaded that the day before). Maybe 2K/PAM added another glitch, or two.

Do you think it affects both players in the same way? I experienced the same things, sometimes my player hits superpowerful, sometimes it feels like I use power 30 - sometimes he runs incredibly fast, sometimes it seems like he doesn't move at all...
And the biggest difference is on returns I think... sometimes I really make 90 % of my risk-returns, even against relatively good servers, and sometimes I miss like 90% even against guys who are not able to place their serves well at all...

I've never noticed these things you speak of, Al.

I think it's time to give TS3 a rest for a little bit :P

Around the time that I started 'noticing' stuff like this in TS2 is about the time I decided to call it quits.

Hey Al, you ever noticed that when your in an intense rally a guy from the stands gets up and trades places with his neighbor? You gotta watch closely but its there man. Ive seen it! He is also the guy that shouts just when you set up for a forehand winner making you dump it in the net.

Anyways, i have had this feeling with TS1 as well. I dont think it has anything to do with the game though. One match your hitting risk over risk for minutes on end (reminder, im talking about TS1 :P) and the next match you cant even hit one risk over risk. Its just timing. If your slightly off in the beginning of the match it can hurt you for the rest of it.

On the other hand you could be right as well though :P. Ive seen freakier bugs in the Top Spin series.

I don't know about djarvik's theory on WHY it happens, but I'm 100% certain that it does happen. Norberto said everything I've been noticing, and in ITST matches it's much more of a problem.

I'm not sure there is an even playing field 100% of the time for this game. Whether it's the game assigning wrong properties for certain courts, or the algorithm for matching up character stats is broken... I notice it too.

For example -Puttu DESTROYED ME WITHOUT MERCY while my timing was great but I couldn't move for shit, and my shots looked like I had tapped the button instead of charging it. This was disorienting, until I played him a week later, and I could compete. He was playing the same character but everything was back to normal on my end.
I'm sure he would have won anyways, but the competition wasn't there in the first match. It was like I was a 1/2 second behind, and he was realtime.

Well, its a theory. I am really put off by this lately. It has nothing to do with wining or losing, I happend to actually win lately....but the quality of a match drops to a new low for me when that happends. It is no longer fun, its a strugle....no matter who is the opponent.

Could it be that court/surface effects are accomplished by deducting and/or adding skill point in the backgound for participating players?

For example:

Hard Court US Open:
Power +5
Speed -5
Serve +5

Clay Court Roland Garros
Power -5
Speed +5
Serve -5

Carpet Moscow
Power +5
Speed -5
Strokes -5

...and so on with maybe each court having its own internal adjustment properties that it performs on any given player once the match loading, to give the exact feel that particular court?

In this case, Lag (or a glitch) can somehow load different properties of different courts at different times for different players.

For example it loads Clay court properties for one player and then glitches and loads Carpet for the other. The result is that one player moves great and creates good angles.....while the other strugles to get to the ball? ....and so on.

If each court has its own set of properties, then posibilities are endless.

I know it is not in my head as I have expirienced this in consecutive matches against the same opponent on the same court in friendly matches.

.....and if my timing lets say is off that day, then I should be able to hit a lower percentage of powerfull shots, not NONE at all, right? ...or I should be late to most balls, but not ALL balls, right?

Well, thats all I got for now.

The other theory incudes a little weather report that pops up before each match.....but then again a glitch has to mess it up and give different forecasts to each player during same match to explain why one is affected and not the other.

:stupd :wee :nono

Seeing that he's commented I feel I need to add that:

puttu destroyed me again, but this time because he played better than I could on important points. I was in the running every game, but lost 2 sets with an embarrassing score that doesn't reflect the quality of play.

I WILL have my revenge, puttu.

i never had thought this (maybe because i don´t drink alcohol), i always have thought that this happens because of the lag, and sure that is for this reason, anyway i will be attentive from now to the courts and players that I use, probably your theory is correct, the truth is out there.

I also have these problems. Exact reason unknown, it's irritating to say the least. I.e no word of a lie I absalutely destroyed rae1980 in our quarter final match he struggled to hold serve every service game. It was nothing to do with how I played he's man really struggled. I could see it from my side of the court

you always know somethings up when you go to move for a return but your man stalls he actully stops moving, Then your forced to release the button so then he just stumbles trying to reach it. I could see rae struggling with that problem plus my shots where ludicrously hard, although I rearly used risk. it seemed as though I stuck my risk buttons down.my movement was so smooth before he even thought where to put the ball I was in position ready to hit another thunderbolt. I realy donno what happend but its rearly is in my favour. Maybe that time but genuinly I'm on the recieving end and it really sucks I actaully felt bad for rae that day. But the exact thing happend to me against baggy just before but I didn't get gift. It sucks. Sometimes I feel untouchable other time I feel like I am washed up. Every itst match I have my heart in my mouth, Wandering which player will come out, I really don't mind loosing but I really hate to loose feeling I've been handicapped.
