Playing At The Servers Pace

Postby fedfan » Tue, 06 Apr 2010 19:32

Is it not an unwritten rule to play at the servers pace?

What I mean is sometime on my own serve my opponent will be pressing the x button and rifling through to put me up to the line again.

I think only the player serving should pass through the screens. I'm not talking about playing replays just the time between points so you can have a drink or whatever.

I am up for it. Good idea. From now on I will accept it as an unwritten rule, courtesy.

Also please bounce the ball before serving guys. I know only Roddicks serve is glitch....but I still think we should bounce. I change my returning position a lot, almost every serve.....so I need that extra second to get to my desired spot. It doesn't have to be 3 or 6 bounces. 1's mixed with some 2's is fine.

I'm more a Pete than a Djokovic, throw it up and hit it. :D

Im up for that too , im one for taking my time between serves , and it can be a tad irritating the folks that just rush into next point

I think it's a vicious cycle.
A few times I had to rush through my service games because my opponents would not let me take a break, and I did not want to piss my pants.
Tip: don't drink much if you are playing a long match.

Yes from me. It's useful to take a breather once in awhile

I agree, I usually do let the server control the pace most of the time, exceptions include when I hit an immediate return error and when there's been a great delay after a relatively unimportant point.
That said, I feel there is enough time in between the reset for next point and the ball bouncing until the automatic 'lame serve' to do most things. Leaving the room is tough but adjusting seating, taking a drink, etc is all very possible.

Agreed. There is nothing more annoying than the speedster. I find it's usually happens after they lose a point / game / set.

How would you know about that???

Anyway i think also leave time in between sets, enough time for someone to ask to go toilet, there is no reason to have to hold in a piss or shit for a whole match

i agree, and i´m trying to improve this aspect, i always press x button after win or lose a point, i´m like roddick, it seems that i have hurry to play the following point, when you play with me to feel free to say it to me, I do it without realizing though less and less.

thats a good point actually. I confess i serve quick, and to be hitting 135 MPH'ers will be annoying if you cant move.

yeah true, some of our matches esp over 3 sets, last more than a hour. a 5 set marathon could last two, not including replays!
