all right guys help me out on this one....i have tried many times to make s/v player, but it seems a lot of the times i will get up to the net and the ball flies right through the hole in my chest? or the hole in my head? or better yet, the hole in my raquet? its really annoying i dont understand when to hit the button and release it---do i start holding it down like a baseline shot or do i tap the button?

This means you were too slow to press/release the button.

It happens to me a lot when there's a little bit of lag, because the game sometimes uses when you press the button as the time to even out the lag between players... Deadly if you're quickly tapping a button to volley a shot coming at you really fast.
You can hold it down as long as you like, but I prefer to press just after the opponent makes contact, then release right as the ball comes over the net. So it's much less of a hold than a groundstroke, but USUALLY more than a quickie tap. This does get me into trouble if I'm lobbed though... often I'll release too soon and the ball lands on my head. :? :? :? :?

Something I've started doing when I hit an approach drop shot (don't do this on S&V) is tap the button repeatedly. This helps my player respond to hit the next shot regardless of how much lag there is. Don't do this on normal volleys though as you should be holding down the button longer.

I like your way Emate. I will have to try that out.

okay....i sort of understand--i am releasing the button way too late--because i always try to release the button right before the ball makes contact with my raquet...i will definitely try releasing as soon as the ball crosses the net? what happens when you release the button too early?

you miss, or hit a lame volley. But from what I've experienced, it's way better to release a little too early than a little too late.

one more question and thats it......when hitting a volley is it after you start holding down the button that you start aiming where you want it to go or do you start holding the direction before you hit the button? because everything happens so fast i feel like when i start aiming after i start holding the button the volley goes right back to my opponent...i dont think i have ever hit an approach and then vollied...i always s/v and thats it...if i try to approach volley i get smoked everytime

Umm, that's harder to explain. It's almost pure reflexes and I've been doing it so long I'm not sure how to describe it well, but it's the same principle as every shot- left analog controls movement until you choose a shot, then you aim.
It's just more difficult getting the timing down. Play some exhibitions maybe against a slow hitter?

You guys are holding the button to volley? I tried that for a while, but it's much better to tap at the moment you hit the ball. And you aim at the same time.

I think holding is the wrong word to describe what I do. It's more like a long press/more than a tap. Usually about 1/2 second I guess.
I do tap sometimes when I'm sure I'm going to see a rocket coming my way.

I tried 'tapping' volleys for a while but it always felt weird and very unresponsive...I've been holding the button to volley more like a groundstroke recently (but like emate said only for like .5 seconds or maybe less), and it works a lot better; I've been hitting much stronger volleys and I have much more control over my volleys. Also, the ball almost never flies through me now.

i found you should be aiming to have finsihed your 'tap' just as the ball is about to hit your racket.

This is mostly why I hardly ever tap. It seems like when I do it consistently, about 1/3 of the volleys fly through my neck. Like I said, it's almost always because of lag, but two of these glitchy points in a row and I usually lose serve instantly.

Sometimes when i approach off a serve or a shot, doesnt matter which, on the PS3 i hold the button down and release but the ball goes right through me, it results in the controller getting thrown against something

Now, if i get the chance, I release and press the button another time if i feel he is not gonna swing to make sure he actually hits the volley 8) 8)
