I agree the short slice can get a bit lame, and I really hate seeing a slice forehand except on defense, but there are ways to counter them, and even easier ways to make them miss.

I learned it from playing you. :P

Seriously, back before you thought it was cheesy you used it a lot on the first point after the serve. And you used to use them a lot in rallies, until I started making you hit errors a lot.

I'm not going to go into the details much on how to make the slicers miss, but I'll say this: It ain't by hitting hard flat balls on every point.

If someone does it to you 5 times in a row maybe you were serving a lot outwide?? :-)

Yep, especially high or fast ones. Deep topspin (regular B works, but LT+B is even better) or RT+B up the middle are most effective I find.

CHEDERER wrote:    all right....my apologies for bashing the short cross court B returns.....and Anil and Rob you guys are right....i slice out wide on the deuce pretty much everytime....when i played djarvik yesterday i mixed it up more and saw a lot better results....i have better results serving on the ad court though....because most the time on the deuce im usually thinking to myself why can i not win a point on that side and now you guys have pointed it out......i serve out wide wayyyy too much.....and everyone knows that

I'll be honest here. The first time I played you Chederer, I almost quit. I think you hit every serve wide and slow, which was kind of consider cheesy by some at the time, and I hadn't figure it out yet. But I looked at it as an opportunity to practice and it made me a better player.

It's very likely that the return you hate was learned by people as a way to counter the serves you use. In that sense, you created your own monster.

yes....i am infamous for hitting 106mph aces rather than a 126mph ace.....just because so many people are good at risking the fast serves i catch people off guard with the slow paced serves.....and Rob one thing about me is i dont get mad when someone points something "cheesy" or "weird" in my game.....coz i sware for about the first 2 months of me playing after each match was over i was so concerned about something being cheezy.....i would always ask my opponent "am i a cheezy player?" darkstyle told me in my very first ITST match that i short sliced too much....then one of my opponents said i risk returned too much---ive never had someone say "you serve out wide too much" probably because they didnt wanna let me know so i wouldnt change it and they could bash all my out wide serves....but, like i said please dont be around the bush if you feel like something is cheezy about my game....it helps me to get better without using glitches in the game and makes it wayy more fun....thanks Rob---what did you think about the last time we played? was it fun? or did you wanna quit from something i was doing? im serious i just really wanna know are matches with me fun or boring?

I don't find anything cheesy on TS3 anymore. Even constant RT+LT returns don't bother me - it may be boring, but it's not effective enough to be cheesy.

Anyway, I always find playing cheesers one of the best ways to improve. You learn to deal with the unexpected things that can happen at crucial times in a match.

And I don't remember the last match we played. So I guess you didn't do anything that made me want to quit.

I personally don't have a problem with them, be it returning is such way or serving against someone who returns in such way. I'll take LT B return to any RT return anytime!

As far as I remember from my playing with you, you use a low speed and you risk often. May I suggest this to be a problem? ....slow deep shots disrupt rhythm on most but very best riskers and therefore a good weapon in a non risker arsenal. Try slower serves, then power up your regular non risk A and release in time deep to the corner. You will find them less imposing. Serving fast actually helps them, as you will have less time to recover after serve.

Hope it helps dude!

Dj, I have tried that and yes it does work againest the right player. Sometimes I get a little crazy with LT/RT, I admit it lol. But them LT B's deep into the baseline are um, a little crazy, especially when the other guy is making good contact with them.

The LT+B on the baseline is tricky. Try taking it on the rise - if you let it get above your head you can't get much power on it.

I still haven't quite figured them out yet, but many people kill the ball when I use them.

I rembered when i played you in WT, you were a RT+LT risker, but i have no problem with it at all, in fact im glaf to see you here man.

The LT B can be annoying sometimes, but only if you dont know how to counter it. Keep practicing against it, and then you wil be ok.

And about the GOA only doing it in tiebreaks, i think he realized that he wasnt going to be able to use it and get a break, so he kept it in his pocket and used it when he needed, to get the crucial point

I think you should be absolutely 1000% free to use any shot whenever you want in TS3, you shouldn't have to pander to those "Why only use it during the tiebreak, why didn't you use it during the whole match" crybabies    . I've heard plenty of people use that line and it always makes me scratch my head, they try to make it sound like you're doing something wrong by not using a certain shot on every point, but then if you were to use it on every point, they'd be like "OMG NO FAIR YOU DO THAT ON EVERY POINT". You can't win. Unless they win. In that case, that type of person will gladly play you all night until they lose, not caring what shots you hit or when you hit them, until they lose, which is the moment that your shots become 'cheesy'.

chederer i think you were best when your risked returned more.... since you stopped i've been beating your fairly easily.... you were very good at risk returns, so it put a lot of pressure on me... now i do have a better serve since then, so maybe it wont scare me like it used too, but maybe you should risk return more, and work on that serve bro... i'll help you if u need it

I agree. Against my serve and volleyer, you risked too much because it was so low percentage and unnecessary. You just need to find a middle ground, instead of being all risk or no risk. Mix them up, and if your feeling it, go for it.
