On a similar note, I think the biggest problem with volleying is that there's no 'cancel shot' button. There's no way I should have to press a button just as an opponent hits a shot to volley, but that same button press screws me over if it's a lob. Needs to be a way to cancel the first volley, because nearly every time a lob goes over my head it's crap, and pretty much lands on my head.
Really pulls a lot of the 'realism' out of attacking the net, but whatever. If your first volley is good enough, this is never a problem!!

I think I can Help. ....if you keep holding direction after you top for volley, you will hit that smash. As soon as you release the direction the ball will fll on your head. Works for me!

mis hit returns that just make it over the net are the single most annoying thing when trying to SV, becasue there is no drive volley on the game that is effective. Id say this is the only thing virtua tennis has which is more realistic than TS3, when you get a chance to drive volley the point is over.

How do you cancel a shot?
Better yet how do you cancel a serve?

If you press the button to volley, but it is a lob, you simply hold the button while you back up - or if the lob is deep, you press LB to run it down. Simple, but not easy.

You can only cancel stick serves - you just hold the stick down.

when i tap it my char just watches the ball past him.

for my volleys i start to hold it just before my opponent hits a shot, or just after i hold rb to approach the net and let it go once the ball has reached about halfway towards me, usuall with L2+X aiming down

I use Slice (R2,L2) sometime right after my serve, but not short, i talk about long. I intend to push my opponent even further after the baseline with that tactic, and it works, especially with my backhand slice.
